Tips for Improving Your Diet

There are many things in your life that you should be paying attention to on a daily basis – how much sleep you get, how much water you drink, how much exercise you do, and importantly your diet. 

Your diet has a big impact on how you feel daily. Consuming an unhealthy diet will cause you to feel tired, increase the chances of you getting ill and have a negative effect on your mental health. It’s important you aim to eat 5 pieces of fruit and veg a day, reduce your weekly takeaways, and try to drink less alcohol. 

Below are three tips to improve your diet. 

Try new recipes 

One tip to try and improve your diet is to cook more yourself. By cooking your own meals, you can control what’s in your food, increasing how healthy it is. Depending on what you are aiming for within your diet, you can choose to reduce the number of calories in your meal, the amount of proteins, fat, or vitamins. Why not try a new recipe like a chicken tortilla soup in the crock pot? By trying something new you can enjoy the process of learning the recipe as well as practicing new cooking skills. 

Enjoy five a day 

Every healthy diet should include five pieces of fruit and vegetables a day. Fruit and vegetables have countless benefits that can help you in everyday life. Try to have a piece of fruit or two as a snack during the day or add it to your breakfast. Vegetables should be added to your lunch and dinner. If you don’t enjoy eating vegetables, try to add them to the sauces of the meals you make, this way it’s disguised within the flavors. Meal options could include spaghetti bolognese, lasagne, or curry.

Do not get thirsty 

A lot of people mistake hunger for thirst. Often when they are feeling hungry they turn to food, forgetting it could be that they are dehydrated. By having a drink, you may feel yourself up, reducing the amount you are eating that day. As part of a healthy diet, you should be drinking two to three liters of water a day – do you think you achieve this? In order to drink more, try filling up a 1 litre water bottle and aiming to finish two or three bottles a day. This can also help when achieving a healthy mind, body, and soul. Another method for drinking more water is to keep a hydration diary. Each time you have a drink, take note so that you know if you are achieving the 2 to 3 liters a day.
